Cost and Financial Aid

The School of Public Policy is committed to preparing students to lead in their communities through education, outlook, and commitment. The School also works to connect qualified students with need-based and merit-based financial assistance including scholarships, graduate assistantships, internships, and part-time employment.

The menus below outline the cost considerations and financial aid resources offered through the University and the School of Public Policy. In addition:

Please note for in-person programs, parking is not included within tuition and fee structures noted below.


Graduate Degree Programs

Master of Public Administration (MPA) // Master of Public Policy (MPP)

Tuition and fee schedules for the MPA and MPP programs can be found on the Office of the Bursar's page for graduate students. Please note that students pay an adjusted General University Fee because the School of Public Policy is based at the UConn Hartford campus. Students also do not pay the Student Health & Wellness Fee or the Student Rec Center Fee.

Internal School Funding

First-Year Students

(Note: Apply by February 15th and Select “Yes” for “Are you applying for a GA/Fellowship” in the survey section of the application.)

  • Graduate Assistantship (GA): Awarded based on academic merit to full-time students. Carries a full-tuition tuition waiver, stipend, and medical benefits in exchange for 10 hours a week work commitment. A limited amount of GA’s are available each year in either a research or teaching capacity.
  • Sponsored Internship (SI): For students not awarded a GA. Offered on a limited basis in the nonprofit or public sector, SI’s receive a stipend.
  • Student Work: Depending on needs and funding, this hourly based position offers an opportunity for students to support School program activities.
  • Federal Work-Study: Supporting students with Federal Work-Study money as part of their financial aid package, these students support program activities. If a student wishes to utilize their federal Work-Study they should contact the Administrative Program Director.
Second-Year Students
  • Internship and Professional Practice (IPP): For full-time students who have completed 18 credits of MPA or MPP coursework, including 9 credits of core coursework. Students must participate in Mock Interview Night and Resume Workshop. Students carry a tuition scholarship, stipend, and medical benefits in exchange for 15 hours a week at either a public or nonprofit organization.

Master of Public Administration Executive Track

The cost of the MPA Executive Track is the same for residents, non-residents, and international students. The cost for 2023-2024 is $1,000 per credit, all-inclusive for tuition and fees. The breakdown of the University Bursar’s graduate tuition and fee schedule is not applicable to these programs.

Master of Arts in Survey Research and Data Analysis

The cost of the Master of Arts in Survey Research and Data Analysis is the same for residents, non-residents, and international students. The cost for 2023-2024 is $1,000 per credit, all-inclusive for tuition and fees. The breakdown of the University Bursar’s graduate tuition and fee schedule is not applicable to these programs.

Leadership and Public Management

The cost for the Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Public Management is the same for residents, non-residents, and international students. The cost for 2023-2024 is $1,000 per credit, all-inclusive for tuition and fees. The breakdown of the University Bursar’s graduate tuition and fee schedule is not applicable to these programs.

Students enrolled only in graduate certificates are not eligible to receive federal financial aid. UConn’s payment plan or Alternative (Private) Loan financing are available.

Nonprofit Management

The cost is the same for residents, non-residents, and international students. The cost for 2023-2024 is $1,000 per credit, all-inclusive for tuition and fees. The breakdown of the University Bursar’s graduate tuition and fee schedule is not applicable to these programs.

Students enrolled only in graduate certificates are not eligible to receive federal financial aid. UConn’s payment plan or Alternative (Private) Loan financing are available.

Scholarships

Five students each year are selected to receive a $500 scholarship, which is awarded after the completion of one nonprofit management course toward a future course in the certificate. In order to be eligible, the student must be admitted to the Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management, receive an “A-” or better in their course, and be registered for their next semester course. Applications should be emailed to publicpolicy@uconn.edu with the following components:

  • Current resume
  • A letter outlining briefly any circumstance concerning financial need, their career focus, and relevant plans in the nonprofit sector (less than two single-spaced pages)

Criteria for the scholarship include: financial need, academic performance, career focus, and potential impact of the student’s work in the nonprofit sector. If needed, instructors will be contacted regarding a student’s academic potential.

Public Financial Management
