Tuition and fee schedules for the MPA and MPP programs can be found on the Office of the Bursar's page for graduate students. Please note that some fees are not applicable or are adjusted because the School of Public Policy is based at the UConn Hartford campus.

Internal School Funding

First-Year Students

Note: Apply by February 15th and Select “Graduate Assistantship" in the enrollment details section of the application.

• Graduate Assistantship: Awarded based on academic merit to full-time students. Carries a full-tuition tuition waiver, stipend, and health insurance in exchange for 10 hours a week work commitment. A very limited amount of GA are available each year in either a research or teaching capacity.
• Sponsored Internship: Offered on a limited basis in the nonprofit or public sector, SI receive a stipend. Placements are not guaranteed.
• Student Administrative Assistant: Depending on needs and funding, this hourly based position offers an opportunity for students to support School program activities.
• Federal Work-Study: Supporting students with Federal Work-Study money as part of their financial aid package, these students support program activities. If a student wishes to utilize their federal Work-Study they should contact our Director of Student and Academic Affairs.
• Albert G. Ilg Fellowship in Local Government: MPA applicants with a stated interest in local government careers are eligible. The Fellowship award is a one-time monetary scholarship. Select "yes" to MPA service in the survey section of the application.
• Morton J. Tenzer Fellowship: This award is given to an incoming MPA or MPP student with undergraduate academic excellence and the potential to succeed in the program.

Second-Year Students

• Albert G. Ilg Fellowship in Local Government: The Albert G. Ilg Fellowship in Local Government award is given to a rising second year student in the MPA program who has demonstrated interest in local government service. This is a monetary award.
• Lyle Wray Memorial Scholarship Award: The Lyle Wray Memorial Scholarship award is given to recognize a student in the MPA program who demonstrates financial need and academic achievement. Priority consideration will be given to individuals who express an interest in regional planning or urban studies. This is a monetary award.
• David B. Walker Award: The David B. Walker Award is given to recognize a student in the MPA or MPP programs who exemplifies tireless dedication to public service. 
• Internship and Professional Practice (IPP): For full-time students who have completed 18 credits of MPA/MPP coursework, including specific core courses with grades of "B" or higher. Students must participate in required trainings and maintain academic eligibility. Students carry a tuition scholarship, stipend, and medical benefits in exchange for 15 hours a week at either a public or nonprofit organization. Placements are not guaranteed.

The cost for the Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Public Management is the same regardless of in-state or out-of-state residency. The cost for 2025-2026 is $1,000 per credit. The breakdown of the University Bursar’s graduate tuition and fee schedule is not applicable to these programs.

Academic Partnerships
The School of Public Policy is proud to be an academic partner of the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities (CCM). Qualified CCM members applying to our Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Public Management can receive an application fee waiver and $2,000 tuition benefit applied to program costs.

Applicants must contact publicpolicy@uconn.edu before submitting their application in order to receive a fee waiver. The application fee waiver and tuition benefit cannot be combined with any other academic partnerships. Current students adding a certificate or degree are not eligible. Students who receive full tuition benefits from UConn or an outside entity are not eligible.

Financial Aid
Students enrolled only in graduate certificates are not eligible to receive federal financial aid. UConn’s payment plan or Alternative (Private) Loan financing are available.
