Alexis Bivens
Managing Director
Supporting Organizing Work Funders Collaborative (SOW-CT)
Alexis Bivens is the Managing Director of the Supporting Organizing Work Funders Collaborative (SOW-CT), a program supported by the Connecticut Council for Philanthropy. SOW-CT is a philanthropic effort to develop a shared strategy and pool resources across grantmakers in order to strengthen the organizing capacity of grassroots groups across Connecticut. In February 2026, Alexis transitioned from her role of Vice President of Strategic Initiatives for the Connecticut Council for Philanthropy in order to dedicate her energies full-time to the work of SOW-CT.
Alexis states, “I’m stepping into a full time Managing Director role at Supporting Organizing Work-CT (SOW-CT) Funders Collaborative. SOW-CT has been woven through my work for years now—first as a member, then as a part-time director, and always as someone who believes deeply in the power of community organizing. I’m excited to step fully into this work and focus on building the infrastructure, relationships, and resources that Connecticut’s organizers need to sustain their movements and win.”
Alexis joined the Connecticut Council of Philanthropy team with over 15 years of experience in philanthropic organizations and nonprofits. Alexis has served as program director at the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation, where she spearheaded initiatives focusing on the environment and learning differences. Prior to joining the Tremaine Foundation, she served as director of Thrive by 25 at Fairfield County’s Community Foundation. Alexis also worked at the McGivney Community Center in Bridgeport as their Executive Director. Alexis received her Bachelor of Arts at Eastern Connecticut State University and her Master of Arts in Community Counseling at Fairfield University.
