Budget Analyst - State of Rhode Island, Office of Management and Budget

Chris Tyburksi is a Budget Analyst at the State of Rhode Island’s Office of Management and Budget. In his role, he monitors agency expenditures and evaluates policy relating to Health and Human Services, Housing, Veterans, and the Elderly. He also assists in drafting the annual Governor’s Budget Proposal and completes fiscal analysis on proposed legislation.

Chris graduated from the University of Connecticut in May of 2024 as an Honors Scholar, with bachelor’s degrees in economics and history. While an undergraduate, he completed his honors thesis, “‘The Price of Progress’: a Historical Narrative and Economic Analysis of the Planning and Construction of Interstate 84 in Hartford, CT,” which utilized regression analysis and GIS to assess the highway’s impact on population movement in Hartford. Chris also enrolled in the MPP Fast Track Program, which he found through his Honors Advisor.

Chris received his MPP in May of 2025. During his time at the School of Public Policy, he participated in the abovementioned Fast Track Program and held an IPP position in the Revenue Unit of the State of Connecticut’s Office of Policy and Management. There, he was able to utilize his quantitative modeling skills, gained through his MPP coursework, to develop a regression-based sales tax forecasting model. These experiences gave Chris the necessary analytical and interpersonal skills to succeed as a Budget Analyst.

Chris recommends that future SPP students take full advantage of the Fast Track and IPP Programs. Additionally, he urges students to meet and connect with their classmates and faculty. His time at SPP exposed him to a diverse cross-section of the public service community, which greatly enriched his experience.
