Dr. Nuri Heckler, Esq.
Nuri Heckler is the Co-Editor-in-Chief of Administrative Theory & Praxis, and the Director of Data Analytics for the Mayor’s Office of Children and Families in the City of Philadelphia. His team engages in reporting and research on child welfare, juvenile justice, out-of-school education, adult education, and family supports, providing data and analysis to support thousands of workers in the 7th largest municipality in the U.S. Before this appointment, he was a tenured Associate Professor at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, School of Public Administration, where he was recognized as an award-winning teacher and served as Second Vice President of the Faculty Union. His peer-reviewed research leverages administrative law and diverse empirical approaches to examine governance in federal offices, municipalities, and nonprofit organizations, focusing on how organizations work for social justice. His research can be found in the Journal of Public Administration Research & Theory (J-PART), Nonprofit & Voluntary Sector Quarterly, Administrative Theory & Praxis, Public Integrity, Urban Affairs Review, Journal of Public Administration Education, and various law reviews among others. His publications in development look at the relationship between child welfare, intergenerational trauma transfer, and social justice in modern municipal government. Nuri lives in the great City of Philadelphia with his two teenagers and two small dogs, where he enjoys baking award-winning cookies and bicycling to the many excellent breweries and restaurants.
