SPP Student Hardship Fund (listed as Public Policy Awards Fund)

Goals: $5,000 and 80 donors

The fund is essential for School of Public Policy students who, due to emergencies or unforeseen circumstances, can get help—in many instances enabling them to continue and complete their program of study rather than pause or drop out altogether.

Why Donate to the Student Hardship Fund?

"The School of Public Policy’s student hardship fund arrived not just as financial support, but as a lifeline— one that reminded me I was not alone and that this community believed in my future even when I struggled to see it myself." - Abigail G. Gerard, class of 2025

“The SPP hardship fund provided me with timely support during a challenging period, allowing me to stay focused on my studies.” -Rubaa Khan, class of 2026

“As a first-generation graduate student navigating a demanding program, knowing this support exists makes all the difference; this fund doesn't just help students pay bills, it helps them keep believing their goals are possible and to keep moving forward!" - Michael Anthony Davis Jr., class of 2027

Children with Incarcerated Parents Initiative (CTCIP) Scholarship Fund

Goals: $3,500 and 55 donors

Students impacted by the incarceration of a close family member or caregiver can face challenges in their everyday life - from the financial hardship of a parent losing income while incarcerated to the emotional trauma of a disrupted family life. The Children with Incarcerated Parents Initiative Scholarship Fund aims to alleviate this burden for students.

Why Donate to the CTCIP Scholarship Fund?

"[The CTCIP Scholarship] helps me worry less about financial stability and thus focus more on school. It also allows me to be grateful for what I went through and makes me feel seen."

“I’m very grateful to be recognized on the state level for something that has affected me and so many others around me for nearly our whole lives. I think I’m just starting to fully understand the opportunity I’m given to join and build in a community that often feels very broken and isolating."

I would say how much it means to be seen for the things we try to do for ourselves and others and the futures we’re trying to build apart from our difficult pasts. Hope is extremely hard to maintain when the world around you expects you to become a biological product of the people that were responsible for you."

In previous years SPP has had the highest number of donors across the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. This year we hope to replicate this tradition!
