Darnell Tucker

Darnell V. Tucker is a 13-year veteran of the New Haven Fire Department, where he serves as an Firefighter/EMT. Throughout his career, he has held roles in fire suppression, apparatus engineer, emergency medical response, fire prevention, inspections, and fire investigations. His dedication to protecting the community is complemented by certifications in fire investigation, fire code inspection, hazardous materials technician, technical rescue, and fire service instruction.
Prior to joining the fire service, Darnell proudly served for 10 years in the United States Marine Corps and the United States Air Force Reserve. His military service instilled the values of discipline, integrity, teamwork, and servant leadership, which continue to guide his professional and personal life. Darnell earned Associates Degree in Business Administration with Entrepreneurship from Connecticut State Community College, a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Connecticut State University and is currently pursuing a Master of Public Administration through the University of Connecticut’s Executive MPA Fellows Program. His academic interests include public safety leadership, emergency management, organizational leadership, and local government administration. Beyond his professional career, Darnell is actively involved in civic and community organizations, mentoring youth and supporting scholarship initiatives throughout Connecticut. He is committed to advancing public service through ethical leadership, strategic decision-making, and collaborative partnerships that strengthen communities.
As an MPA Fellow, Darnell looks forward to expanding his leadership capabilities, learning alongside fellow public service professionals, and preparing for future executive leadership roles in municipal government and public safety administration.
