Executive Director, New Britain ROOTS, Inc.


A New Britain native, Joey Listro has worked on various non-profit farms across New England since 2009. Joey’s background is a unique blend of agriculture, education, and social justice work. He has previously created programs that support organic farming apprenticeships and curriculum for high school students as an AmeriCorps volunteer. Joey spent two years managing a 100+ acre educational farm in New Milford, before returning to New Britain as the founder of New Britain ROOTS, a not-for-profit organization that operates programs that increase access to healthy food, urban farming, and food and garden education. Most recently, Joey has been involved in various food policy efforts throughout the state, advocating for bills to shape a better food system. Joey is also a member of the New Britain Board of Education where he puts his love for policy work into practice.
