Matthew Hono is a Master of Public Policy (MPP) student supporting the School of Public Policy as a Research Assistant. He is pursuing Social Policy as his focus area.

Matthew graduated from Stony Brook University Summa Cum Laude, earning the 2023 Ward Melville Valedictorian Award and Pi Sigma Alpha’s Eta Theta Pinnacle Award. He received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Political Science and Psychology, minoring in Writing and Rhetoric. During his undergraduate studies, he was involved in local elections, interning for Suffolk County Legislator Bridget Fleming’s and State Senator Alessandra Biaggi’s campaigns for the House of Representatives. He also has worked at the Hudson Valley and Long Island regional offices of U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer, supporting the Senator’s constituent services, media relations, and local issue research efforts. During his undergraduate studies, he also developed an interest in education, having worked as a writing and academic skills peer tutor.

Matthew is incredibly excited to be supporting UConn’s research output. Matthew’s past research has focused on studying polling inaccuracies for female candidates, health and climate change instruction in grade schools, implicit ageism’s impact on voting behavior, and ageism reduction strategies. He hopes to pursue a career as a policy analyst in local or state government.
