Sean Howard

Lieutenant/Paramedic, Town of West Hartford, CT

Sean Howard is a Lieutenant/Paramedic with the West Hartford Fire Department, where he supervises company personnel during emergency incidents, provides initial incident command, and ensures safe and efficient operations. His responsibilities include training and mentoring firefighters, maintaining apparatus and equipment readiness, managing documentation, and supporting public-safety initiatives through fire prevention and community education. He also serves as the lead instructor for Conard High School’s inaugural EMT program, a role appointed through the Department to support the development of new EMS providers. He additionally serves as the team lead for the department recognized Peer Support Team, providing confidential support and resources to firefighters following critical incidents. Before joining West Hartford, he spent a decade working in EMS in Hartford’s high-acuity emergency medical system.

Sean is the elected President of IAFF Local 1241, overseeing collective bargaining, contract administration, grievance management, and labor–management relations. He works closely with municipal officials on staffing, budgeting, and policy implementation. Beyond the fire service, he serves as Parish Council President at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Hartford, directing governance, budgeting, and strategic planning for parish operations.

He holds a B.A. in History, summa cum laude, from SUNY Empire State University, and is a licensed paramedic with comprehensive fire service and rescue technician training. Sean lives in Manchester, CT with his wife and their six children.
