A collaboration between UConn SPP and CTCMA to offer undergraduates insights and experiences in local government careers.

June 6, 2026
UConn Hartford

Hartford, Connecticut

The University of Connecticut (UConn) School of Public Policy and the Connecticut Town & City Management Association (CTMCA) call for students from UConn and beyond to take part in this new student career development opportunity!

Case Competition: High Level View

The Undergraduate Local Government Case Competition provides teams of students the opportunity to review an issue impacting a community, assess proposed solutions to that issue, and present their findings and arguments to a panel of local government leaders. Interested students can create their own teams and register, or sign up as an individual to be put on a team. In the weeks leading up to the competition, and on the competition day itself, students have the chance to:

  • Build competencies in reviewing written cases that are typical in graduate-level coursework
  • Gain career advice directly from permanent staff and elected leaders from local municipalities
  • Increase comfort and skill in public speaking
  • Get more comfortable incorporating critical feedback into their work
  • Practice thinking, reacting, and navigating questions on the fly
