My first year at UConn SPP has been fulfilling and eventful – you can read my reflections here – as we’ve all navigated shifting state and national policy landscapes, with impacts on programs and budgets. I’m grateful to our alumni on the frontlines of these changes, and confident the experiences gained here have prepared them well for this moment.
Even with these challenges, the School is in a strong position. This fall we welcome our largest cohorts of MPP and MPA Fellows-Hartford students. We see continued growth of the Fast-Track program and we’re recruiting for a new cohort of MPA Fellows in Stamford. That’s a total 116 graduate students and about 40 Fast-Track students in all – adding to the energy and strength of our network of nearly 1,500 alumni!
Our graduate internship program is stronger than ever. Between our Internship and Professional Practice (IPP) and Sponsored Internship (SI) formats, our 55 interns will work in public and nonprofit organizations this fall and spring.
We’re also focused on the future. This year we submitted self-study reports as part of the reaccreditation of our MPA program and, for the first time, accreditation of our MPP program. These rigorous reviews by the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA) and Commission on Peer Review and Accreditation (COPRA) challenge us to keep raising the bar and ensure our programs meet the highest standards.
This fall we welcome 26 Fellows to Encore Connecticut and we continue to support the fourth cohort of the Emerging Nonprofit Leaders of Color program in collaboration with the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven. We’re also launching a strong new slate from the Public Service Executive Leadership Collaborative with our many Connecticut partners. I’m encouraged by the momentum we’re building together. Thank you for being part of this important work and our community.
