On March 2nd, 20024 four UConn School of Public Policy (SPP) students participated and placed in the annual Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA) Simulation Competition. The students were hosted at the Suffolk University site in Boston, Massachusetts with teams across the globe joining between February 24th and March 2nd.
DMS Academy facilitated the Host Nations Simulation. Students were tasked to “… consider the diverse needs of various populations, interpret data to evaluate and reorient policy decisions, practice inclusive decision-making and navigate challenging and asymmetrical intergovernmental relations (NASPAA).” Working in teams they sought to deliver effective and equitable policies.
This annual event allowed our SPP Huskies to apply their classroom theory to real-world challenges. Masters of Public Policy (MPP) students Adriana Sanchez Dominicci, Sudiksha Mallick, Laura Rodriguez Lora and Sylvia C. Murray represented UConn in Boston! Sudiksha said,
This was an incredible experience, with wonderful people! It was truly inspiring to see and work with individuals who had such a passion towards public service and the dedication to create a better future for the world.
Together with Laura, Sudiksha saw a first place finish at the competition. Their team also included Armita Hooman and Devon Behrer from Syracuse University. Adriana was part of the second place team, and Sylvia’s team came in third. Sylvia adds, “It was an enlightening experience working with peers from neighboring schools while discussing foreign policy decisions and its impact in a simulated environment.” Congratulations to Laura, Sudiksha, Adriana and Sylvia! We can not wait to see what you do next.
