Earlier this month on May 8th, Cohort III of the Emerging Leaders of Color program graduated from their nonprofit training. The program was developed by the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven (CFGNH) and the School of Public Policy (SPP). SPP Director of Nonprofit Outreach and Adjunct Professor David Garvey co-lead the program with Cynthia Rojas, Consultant at Fio Partners. Dave also serves as the Director of Partnership and Compliance at Career Resources Inc.
The Emerging Leaders of Color program covered topics on finance and accounting, governance, fund development, human resources, strategic planning, program evaluation, stakeholder communications, and community engagement. Lead by industry leaders, each session emphasized the issues and ramifications of race, equity and inclusion, and offered opportunities for reflection.
The graduation included words from SPP School Director Mohamad Alkadry and Jackie Downing, Senior Director of Grantmaking and Nonprofit Support at CFGNH. Terence Floyd, VP Senior Social Impact Specialist at Wells Fargo and Yakeita Robinson, Chief of Staff at LEAP Emerging Leaders Cohort II also provided remarks.
In addition to the families and supervisors of Cohort III, the celebration included alumni from Cohorts I and II. Cohort III included:
