This year the Institute for Municipal and Regional Policy’s (IMRP) CT Children with Incarcerated Parents Initiative (CTCIP) was featured in the news twice this year.
The Initiative was featured by NBC Connecticut for a piece entitled “Playground at York Correctional Will be Newest Tool to Connect Incarcerated Moms With Their Kids” about York Correctional Institute. This piece focused on a partnership between CTCIP and the Institute that utilizes state funding for a caregivers program that is impacting over 850 children. CTCIP Project Manager Aileen Keays emphasized the benefit of the program on kids with incarcerated parents and the impact on the public in reducing recidivism.
Following the tragic news of three Bristol police officers being shot on duty, Aileen published a piece about how “Their children need us” in CT Mirror’s CT Viewpoints. Specifically she noted that both the children of the officers and the alleged perpetrators will be forever impacted by this event. She asks for the community to consider all child victims and provide them with support. Aileen notes, “this support is also critical for their health and wellbeing. The children here are all innocent victims of the acts of this heinous night.”
